Niccolò Polo is the father of Marco Polo. Niccolò was absent for Marco upbringing due to his constantly on adventurous travels. Upon returning to Italy, he reunited with his estranged son and eventually sold him to Kublai Khan as a servant in return for permission to trade along the conquered Silk Road . Later, it is revealed that he committed this act in order to smuggle silk, and once again betrayed Marco.
